We just returned (5:00pm) from viewing the Northern Mockingbird that?s been
a regular on Rhodena Drive, east of Coupeville. We dipped on the Long-eared
Owl at AuSable but will try again tomorrow.
Here are the directions to the mocker and owl sites as requested.
*From the Clinton ferry travel north to Parker Road which is just passed the
S curves near the Outlying Field.
* Turn right (north) onto Parker Road. The open area to the right is the
AuSable property. The Long-eared was seen by the old pheasant coops to the
east. I?ll e-mail pictures to anyone interested.
* Follow Parker for .7 of a mile and turn right onto Rhodena Drive.
* Follow Rhodena Drive for .3 of a mile to Snakelum point Rd. The mocker has
been seen either on the power line down the left side of Snakelum or in the
holly tree about 20-30 down the road. It?s been defending the berries from
voracious robins. There are photos but they aren?t the best.

In other Whidbey Island bird news, I found a Redhead in Deer Lagoon today.
It?s a county lifer for me and my 220th Whidbey species. There is also a
report of a possible Prairie Falcon that I?ll chase tomorrow. Whew!
