Tweeters,

The GREAT EGRET first reported near Stanwood, Snohomish Co.,
on Jan. 30 by Larry Baxter was still there early yesterday
afternoon, February 9. From Stanwood, proceed W on State Route
532 toward Camano Island, and cross the Mark Clark bridge. Just
west of the bridge, there is a gravel pulloff on the right with room
for a couple of vehicles. The egret was feeding actively in the marsh
less than 100 metres from the road, and was highly visible during the
30 minutes or so that I remained in the area. Also in the area were
3-4 GREAT BLUE HERONS, several BALD EAGLES, lots
of dabbling ducks (mostly NORTHERN PINTAILS), and just to the
south across Highway 532, about 3000 SNOW GEESE, feeding in
a field near the highway.

In late morning, I spent about an hour looking for the WHOOPER SWAN
just N and E of Conway, but did not find it. Paul Woodcock of Bellingham
also looked for it with no luck. However, as it was seen near
Conway on Feb. 7, and as there are many hundreds of swans in
the area, it's probably still there somewhere.
