Dear Tweeters,

A brief, noontime visit to Grandy Lake today proved
well worth the time. A kettle of 7 Bald Eagles
included an adult GOLDEN EAGLE as well. Looking up at
the sunlit ridge to the west of the lake, I was also
surprised and delighted to see an adult NORTHERN
GOSHAWK gliding along the treetops.

Grandy Lake is on the Baker Lake Highway, reached by
turning north from SR 20 between Concrete and Hamilton
(Skagit County). There is a little county campground
there.

Earlier in the day, I had seen a Sharp-shinned Hawk
north of Cockreham Island; later on, near a Chuckanut
Drive alpaca farm, I spotted a Cooper's Hawk, making
for a three-Accipiter day--my first, at least as far
as I can remember.

Other raptors seen today included Red-tails here and
there, a Merlin south of Mount Vernon, and a Northern
Harrier along Chuckanut Drive. I am sure that I would
have had a ten-raptor day if I had had time to run out
to the Samish Flats to look for peregrines and Rough-legs!

Yours truly,

Gary Bletsch
