Greetings Tweeters,
I briefly stopped by Perry Creek at about 1100 yesterday. (Perry Creek is
adjacent to Mud Bay along Highway 101 in Thurston County). The gull
attraction is about over for this year. There were only 6 gulls present,
but involved 3 species including 1yr Glaucous, and 1yr Thayers. Thayers
gets pretty tough this late in the season here, and of course Glaucous is a
treat around here any time.
This Glaucous is atypical in it's bill color, though everything else is
classic Glaucous. I've not seen this particular bill pattern before, and
nothing else suggests hybrid/etc. I'm curious about others experience/
comments.
The bill was long and good shape for Glaucous w/ basil 1/2-2/3 pink. Outer
1/3 was dark/ dusky and rather diffuse. It was not the classic clearly
demarcated "tip dipped in black" look I normally associate with the species.
Any comments?
