Friday February 09:
A PEREGRINE FALCON was spotted near Cassidy in south Nanaimo.

Wednesday February 07:
The Wednesday Bird Walk on Febuary 07 was cancelled because of the rainy
weather. We scouted out the area at Deep Bay and saw at least 150 plus
LONG-TAILED DUCKS (oldsquaw), probably over 100 PACIFIC LOONS in a large
raft off shore and variety of seabirds on the water. Two birders from
Gabrolia Island did brave the rain for the Wednesday Bird Walk and we spent
some more time studying the LONG-TAILED DUCKS, not five feet from shore.
Very nice! We shall try Deep Bay again next Wednesday and look for nicer
weather!!
We sighted the following thirty-five species: PACIFIC LOON, COMMON LOON,
HORNED GREBE, BRANDT'S CORMORANT, DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT, TRUMPETER SWAN,
CANADA GOOSE, AMERICAN WIGEON, MALLARD, GREATER SCAUP, LESSER SCAUP,
LONG-TAILED DUCK, BLACK SCOTER, SURF SCOTER, WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, COMMON
GOLDENEYE, BUFFLEHEAD, RED-BREASTED MERGANSER , GREAT BLUE HERON, BALD
EAGLE, BLACK TURNSTONE, DUNLIN, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL,
THAYER'S GULL, ROCK PIGEON, NORTHERN FLICKER, STELLER'S JAY, NORTHWESTERN
CROW,COMMON RAVEN, AMERICAN ROBIN, EUROPEAN STARLING, SONG SPARROW,
DARK-EYED JUNCO and SPOTTED TOWHEE.

Monday February 05:
Three GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were seen at the Surfside mobile home park
in Parksville.
