Dear Tweeters,

Sunday there was an adult GOLDEN EAGLE crossing the
Skagit River at Van Horn (between Rockport and
Concrete). The bird headed north, toward Sauk
Mountain. I don't ever remember seeing a Golden Eagle
two days in a row in Western Washington before, but
such was this past weekend.

In the same riverside backyard from where I saw the
eagle was a lone COMMON REDPOLL. The location is only
a half-mile or less from where I saw a flock of them
in December. There were also a few Evening Grosbeaks
in the yard.

On the way home, I saw a NORTHERN SHRIKE along SR 20,
just east of Hamilton. So far, the only two shrikes I
have seen this winter have been in the upper Skagit
Valley--I haven't managed to see any in the usual
haunts of Skagit or Samish Flats.
