Today was not a good day at Nisqually. It was rainy. It was windy. The
trees were throwing things at us. The birds were under cover. Only two of us
walked part of the loop.

The main highlight was a female BARROW'S GOLDENEYE on the Nisqually River
nearby a female COMMON GOLDENEYE allowing great comparisons of head shape, bill
size and markings and overall coloration. Other than that it was pretty
quiet.

We did see several YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS and both KINGLETS. We also saw a
BROWN CREEPER and a BEWICK'S WREN in the woods. The only sparrows seen were
a couple of SONG SPARROWS and a small flock of DARK EYED JUNCO near the
Nisqually overlook.

All told we saw 34 species for the day with the BARROW'S GOLDENEYE being new
for the year. We were the only mammals we saw today.

I'll be out of town next week when Eric Slagle will lead the walk. I'll
return for the 1st of March walk which will be the full loop. Until then....
