Sunday February 25, 2007:
A TOWNSEND'S WARBLER and a HAIRY WOODPECKER were visiting suet feeders along
Summet Drive in the Long Lake area of Nanaimo.
The Sunday Bird Walk went to the Nanaimo River Estuary in south Nanaimo.
Five birders found the following twenty-four species: TRUMPETER SWANS, GREAT
BLUE HERON, CANADA GEESE, AMERICAN WIGEON, MALLARD, BUFFLEHEAD, COMMON
GOLDENEYE, COMMON MERGANSER, BALD EAGLE, PEREGRINE FALCON, NORTHERN HARRIER,
RED-TAILED HAWK, GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL, BELTED KINGFISHER, NORTHERN FLICKER,
STELLER'S JAY, NORTHWESTERN CROW, COMMON RAVEN, WESTERN MEADOWLARK,
AMERICAN ROBIN, EUROPEAN STARLING,SPOTTED TOWHEE, SONG SPARROW and
GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW.

Saturday February 24:
A SHARP-SHINNED HAWK was seen and photographed sitting on a car and then
attempting to hunt some small backyard birds along Hawkins Street in
Nanaimo.

Wednesday February 21:
The Wednesday Bird Walk went to the Englishman River Estuary, Plummer Road
side. Eight birders found the following fifty-six species: CANADA GOOSE,
BRANT,
GADWALL, AMERICAN WIGEON, MALLARD, NORTHERN PINTAIL, GREEN-WINGED TEAL,
GREATER SCAUP, SURF SCOTER, WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, BLACK SCOTER, BUFFLEHEAD,
COMMON GOLDENEYE, BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, COMMON MERGANSER, RED-BREASTED
MERGANSER, PACIFIC LOON, COMMON LOON, BRANDT'S CORMORANT, DOUBLE-CRESTED
CORMORANT, PELAGIC CORMORANT, GREAT BLUE HERON, BALD EAGLE, SHARP-SHINNED
HAWK,
RED-TAILED HAWK, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, BLACK TURNSTONE, DUNLIN , MEW GULL,
WESTERN GULL, GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL, ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD, BELTED KINGFISHER,
NORTHERN FLICKER, PILEATED WOODPECKER, STELLER'S JAY, NORTHWESTERN CROW,
COMMON RAVEN, CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEE, BUSHTIT, BEWICK'S WREN, WINTER
WREN, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, AMERICAN ROBIN, VARIED
THRUSH, EUROPEAN STARLING, SPOTTED TOWHEE, FOX SPARROW, SONG SPARROW,
GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW, DARK-EYED JUNCO, RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD, BREWER'S
BLACKBIRD, PURPLE FINCH and HOUSE FINCH.

Sunday February 18:
A MERLIN was spotted in the 7100 block of Aulds Road in north Nanaimo.
RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS, AMERICAN GOLDFINCH, PINE SISKIN, VARIED THRUSH,
AMERICAN ROBINS, EUROPEAN STARLINGS, MALLARDS, LESSER SCAUP, HOUSE FINCH and
PURPLE FINCH were seen at Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo.
A RED-TAILED HAWK, a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK and a NORTHERN GOSHAWK were seen
along the E & N trail across from Long Lake in Nanaimo.
An ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD was spotted along Morello Road in Nanoose Bay.

A MORNING OF BIRDING.

Provincial Park. We will meet at the east parking lot of The Parksville
Civic and Technology Centre at Jensen Avenue and McCarter Street at 9:00
a.m. in Parksville or at the Number one Parking lot off Rath Road in
Rathtrevor Provincial Park park near the beach. at about 9:15 am. There's a
parking charge of $1 per hour.
