Hey all,
Apparently my knowledge of what might be a rare
gull is a little lacking in Washington state as I did
not take any pictures of what I identified as an
Iceland Gull a few weeks ago at the Elwha river mouth.
However, I do have some experience with Heerman's
Gulls in the state and it seems a little bit odd to
have one this time of year, and maybe at this
location???
Anyway, Casey Richart and I had a first winter
Heerman's Gull at the tip of Ediz Hook on Saturday
afternoon. It was with a group of Glaucous-winged
Gulls feeding on tourist food scraps. It had a broken
or dislocated left leg and was having quite a bit of
difficulty,so it may hang around.
Earlier in the day we had a first year Glaucous
Gull at the Elwha river mouth, and on Friday night we
were escorted all the way up the Tumwater Truck Route
out of town by a Barn Owl. It flew with us for nearly
a half mile. It was pretty neat. Hope some people
get to see the Heerman's, sorry about the late post.
I have very limited access to the internet,
Good Birding,
