I was one of a number of birders looking for the Whooper Swan Sunday afternoon. No one had seen it and some had been in the area since 10 a.m., although there were a large number of Trumpeters in the field west of hwy 9 and south of Marsh Road. It was still a worthwhile trip as I got to see and talk to some friends I hadn't seen in a while.

The New Year started out better. The first birds for my backyard were a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers and a pair of Anna's Hummingbirds. Also present were a number of Dark-eyed Juncos, a Ruby-crowned KInglet, Spotted Towhee, Bewick's Wren, Song Sparrow and Northern Flicker.
