I figured that others would have posted the results of the TriCities CBC but
since they haven't, here it goes.

Lower Columbia Basin Audubon held its annual CBC on December 30. The circle
covers parts of all three cities. This year's count was a record breaker
with what looks like 112 species tallied in the census. Numbers of each
species are still being tallied. All of the regularly listed "common" birds
were found and a lot of the more uncommon species as well.

Unusual birds included Great Egret, Osprey, Glaucous Gull, Anna's
Hummingbird, Mountain Bluebird, Peregrine Falcon, Pine Grosbeak, and Chukar.
Hopefully I didn't miss any. The Mountain Bluebird, Pine Grosbeak, Anna's
hummer, and Glaucous Gull were relocated on 1/1 also.

Count week birds included Snowy Owl, Common Redpoll, Tundra Swan, and
Western Gull. Missed birds included Pine Siskin, Bohemian Waxwing, and
White-throated Sparrow.

Many thanks go to people who worked on this count. Dennis Rockwell
coordinated the Kennewick effort. Barbara & Tom Clarke led the Pasco
effort. We were responsible for covering Richland. Many members supported
the three teams. Phil Bartley contributed his expertise as past compiler.
Dana Ward will be compiling the final data. All deserve many kudos.

Also thanks go to the long distance travelers who participated including
Mike & MerryLynn Denny, Kerry Turley, and Guy McWethy. If you didn't count
this year and want to be contacted next year to possibly participate in this
wonderful count, please contact Dennis dennrockwell at surfbest.net or Dana
