I generally step out onto the deck each evening to take in a bit of
the night. Last night I was surprised to see a Northern Flying
Squirrel feeding on our platform feeder, where it was sheltered from
the driving rain. I stood there watching from about eight feet away
as it fed. After I went back inside, my wife and I watched it for
about an hour as it also fed from a hanging feeder.

The lessons? Be sure to occasionally look outside at night, and
squirrel-proof feeders can deprive you of a wonderful experience.
