Hi Tweeters,

I spent this morning wandering around Discovery Park. Not realizing that it
was the day of the monthly Seattle Audubon census of the park, I ran into a
surprising number of birders on the trails.

In the large flock of Western Grebes (I counted 334) close to shore off West
Point were at least 2 Clark?s Grebes. Most of the birds had their heads
tucked in, so I only had a few brief identifiable looks. It was really nice
to have a large flock close enough to sort through ? I often look out at the
distant flocks of thousands and wonder how many Clark?s are mixed in among
them.

I ran into Paul and Barbara Webster, then spent about half an hour searching
for the Red-naped Sapsucker they?d found earlier in the morning. I found
some fresh sapsucker wells, but no bird.

I also checked every goldfinch and siskin flock I saw, but didn?t see or
hear any sign of the Common Redpoll found last weekend. As far as I know,
it hasn?t been seen since Sunday.

Good birding,

Matt Dufort
