Hi Tweets,

Yesterday I spent the day in the northern part of Grant County searching
for some of the winter tundra birds. While that search was mostly
unsuccessful, I did find a few nice winter birds.
I headed north from Moses Lake on Stratford Road. The first nice birds were
the continuing EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES which were about 1 mile past the
SR-17 overpass. I then found a very nice Prairie Falcon which was hunting
starlings (hopefully it was successful).
A report of many owls along Pinto Ridge Road did not pan out (too late I
think). But there were large numbers of Rough-legged and Red-tailed Hawks
and good numbers of Northern Harriers hunting across the short sage.
Along SR-155 I came across a large group of Gray-crowned Rosy-Finches.
There must have been around 200 of them foraging all along the cliff. This
was just after coming through the cuts in the basalt (on the downhill side)
and right around a large waterfall. Also present were several Canyon Wrens.
A total of 13 Red-breasted Mergansers were noted in two locations along
Banks Lake directly across from Steamboat Rock State Park.
A quick trip through both Electric City and Grand Coulee produced the
expected flocks of Bohemian Waxwings with a few Cedar Waxwings mixed in.
Despite my best efforts no Pine Grosbeaks were located (the irruption must
be on the westside only).
Soap Lake produced another Prairie Falcon hunting right along the road.
East Beach produced several Killdeer and 4 Least Sandpipers.

Cheers
