Today our field trip up north was cancelled due to bad weather, so
Sherry and I ventured south to the River S unit of Ridgefield.
We found the Red-shouldered Hawk sitting low in the Oregon Ash trees,
next to the road, past the Kiwa trail. Also, we had a nice Brown
Creeper and Red-breasted Sapsucker in the same area. At the far end of
Rest Lake, we scanned the flock of about 300 Tundra Swans, and easily
picked out one Bewick's Swan. The half yellow bill really stood out
among the rest of the flock.
The Rough-legged Hawk was seen in the grassy fields past Rest Lake at
the far end, and 14 Sandhill Cranes flew over.

On our way back, we drove around the Woodland Dike area, and found 1
Great Egret, 1 Greater White-fronted Goose mixed in with about 350
Cacklers, and about 200 Sandhill Cranes were seen along Caples Rd.
