Hello, Tweeters!

I just had to share some excitement that happened this morning. I went out
to put a letter in our mailbox, and I noticed feathers strewn around our
yard and out in the street. They started by our house and continued down
the street for about 5 houses. I got my husband and we walked down the
street, examining the feathers for any clue of what bird this might have
been. They were pure white, and some were bloody. Finally, we found the
head of what seemed to be a dove in the yard across the street from our
house. Then my husband pointed up to the top of the phone pole. There was
a 1st-year Peregrine falcon, tearing up its prey! I did not see any bands
on its legs. After it finished eating, it sat calmly digesting its meal;
some crows made some half-hearted attempts to dive-bomb it, but soon gave up
& left it in peace. We got some great looks; it's certainly a first for us
in this neighborhood.

Good birding,
Anne
