There was an interesting discussion of this very topic on SAWWHETNET this
past season, prompted by a bander who was making a presentation and was
looking for the correct pronunciation of the Latin name for the Northern
Saw-whet Owl, Aegolius acadicus.

The bottom line being that the book most recommended was a "Dictionary of
Word Roots and Combining Forms" by Donald Borror. Pages 3-6 are devoted to
"Rules for Pronunciation of Scientific Names". I have since obtained two
copies of the book, one for my son and one for my students at school.

Re Latin Genus/species names. Until I know how to pronounce these
names, I simply cannot learn them! Anyone know of a resource for
proper pronunciations??
