The most accessible book reference I know of for the pronunciations of names is The Audubon Society Encyclopedia of North American Birds, by John K. Terres. Another helpful source is Dr. Language Person's Guide to Bird Name Pronunciations at http://www.birds.cornell.edu-bird name pronunciations.

Re Latin Genus/species names. Until I know how to pronounce these
names, I simply cannot learn them! Anyone know of a resource for
proper pronunciations??
