Tweets,

Today I took a quick walk by myself at Nisqually in cold, windy conditions.
Those of you who used your better judgement & stayed home, smart move. The
wind really made things seem a lot colder....and the birds were hunkered down
quite a bit.

Highlights included an AMERICAN BITTERN off the trail to McAllister Creek
and 8 WESTERN MEADOWLARK out near the ring dike. There were a couple of small
flocks of sparrows getting grit and/or feeding on the ground. They were
mostly GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS, with a couple of WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS and SONG
SPARROWS thrown in. I also saw a couple of FOX SPARROWS.

Waterfowl were crammed in the few open areas on the ponds and most were
quite a way from the trail. I did see one EURASIAN WIGEON behind the twin barns,
but nothing else notable.

Total for the day was 36 species giving us a total of 51 for the year.

The only mammal seen was a couple of HARBOR SEAL near the Nisqually River
overlook.

Until next week when we hope for warmer weather and more active birds...
