There were at least 4 birders from out-of-state
searching for the Whopper yesterday afternoon. Scoured
Fir Island and up and down Pioneer Highway. No luck.

Good flocks of swans occurred at 2 locations:

[1] field on Pioneer Highway just north of Milltown
(with wooden pull off spot)-- Bob Ekbald of Minnesota
was there early when there were at least 200 swans.
When I arrived about 1:30, there were maybe 50 left,
including a Tundra with yellow by the eye -- perhaps
the bird observers are calling a Bewick's swan? When
we all converged back here at 4:30, however, hoping to
see more fly in, the field was devoid of swans!

[2] Large flock of maybe 500 swans --- location (this
is from memory): we drove from Conway, left on Sagit
Ci (?) just before the white church, left on Moore (we
passed the schoolhouse), turned right on the next
street (something Slough) and they were on the left,
fairly close to road. Just as Bob and I arrived, a dog
flushed them and probably 300 left for points west,
north and south. We scoped the remaining swans but no
luck. An hour or two earlier, 2 Dallas birders, Nick
and Lucy Cooney, had scoped the larger flock and not
seen the Whooper, however. There were 2 photographers
waiting by this flock, so apparently it's a good known
location.

We all found small groups of 5-7 swans here and there,
also to no avail, and shared cell phones so that we
could notify each other.
