Mew Gull 18, Glaucous-winged Gull 8, Glaucous Gull 4, Thayer's Gull 13,
Common Murre 29, Ancient Murrelet 5, Marbled Murrelet 3, Pigeon Guillemot
17, Bufflehead 8, Harlequin Duck 5, Surf Scoter 5, Red-breasted Merganser
10, Western Grebe 4, Sanderling 8 and Song Sparrow 2.

As I was scanning the inlet looking for birds I turned to look to the north
and no more than 100 yards away a Gray Whale blew and sounded moving out to
the north-west. As I continued to watch, the whale surfaced 400 yards away
and headed west blowing once more before I lost sight of it. This was the
first whale sighting for me of this year. What a sight! That made my day.
No one else to share the sighting with but sometimes those are the best
kinds.
