This morning I checked the Goodrich pond and trail. The pond was nearly
all frozen except for one small section which hosted most of the ducks.
Northern Pintails and American Wigeons made up most of the group, but
there were also 5 Tundra Swans, and 1 Eurasian Wigeon. Shorebirds were
way down, only 5 Black-bellied Plovers and 10 Dunlin. A Peregrine Falcon
sat on the snag tree by the farm at the end of Wagner Rd. A walk along
the trail rewarded me with a Fox Sparrow, Red-breasted Sapsucker,
American Kestel, Scrub Jay, and Varied Thrush. However, the hot spot of
the day was at the bird feeders at the house by the parking lot. It
hosted American Goldfinches, House Finches, Juncos, lots of
Golden-crowned Sparrows, and 1 White-throated Sparrow.
In the late afternoon, Sherry came down with me, and the White-trhoated
Sparrow was still present at the feeders.
