Sunday January 14, 2007:
Two GREAT HORNED OWLS were trading calls around midnight on the south side
of the marsh across Rutherford Road from the Quilted Duck adjacent to
Colbourne Drive.
The Sunday bird walk went to the Nanoose Estuary. Twelve birders found the
following thirty-seven species. PACIFIC LOON, COMMON LOON, HORNED GREBE,
PELAGIC CORMORANT, GREAT BLUE HERON, TRUMPETER SWAN, CANADA GEESE, AMERICAN
WIGEON, MALLARD, NORTHERN PINTAIL, GREEN-WINGED TEAL, SURF SCOTER,
BUFFLEHEAD, GREATER SCAUP, BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, COMMON MERGANSER,
RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, DUNLIN, KILLDEER, BALD EAGLE, PEREGRINE FALCON, MEW
GULL, GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL, THAYER'S GULL, NORTHERN FLICKER, STELLER'S JAY,
EUROPEAN STARLING, NORTHWESTERN CROW, COMMON RAVEN, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET,
AMERICAN ROBIN, SPOTTED TOWHEE, SONG SPARROW, RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD, BREWER'S
BLACKBIRD, PURPLE FINCH and HOUSE FINCH.

Saturday January 13:
Forty TRUMPETER SWANS were seen at the Breakwater in Lower Lantzville.
Over fifty AMERICAN ROBINS were spotted on the beach at Lantzville.

Thursday January 11:
A BULLOCK'S ORIOLE was seen on Centre Crescent just north of the Little
Qualicum River in Qualicum Beach.

Wednesday January 10:
Two GREAT-HORNED OWLS were calling along Club House Drive in Nanaimo.

Tuesday January 09:
A PEREGRINE FALCON was spotted flying over Highway 19A north of Qualicum
Beach.

Monday January 08:
A NORTHERN HARRIER was seen flying over Parksville.
A immature female BULLOCK'S ORIOLE was visiting suet feeders in the 100
block of Fire Dance Lane just up island from the Little Qualicum River on
Highway 19A.

Sunday January 07:
A ROCK SANDPIPER was spotted standing on a rock in the Northeast corner of
Neck Point Park in Nanaimo.
A VARIED THRUSH was spending time on a deck railing along Brodys Place in
Nanaimo.
A MERLIN was seen on a birdbath in the 400 block of Heather Place in
Parksville.

Wednesday January 03:
An ALBINO NORTHWESTERN CROW was seen at Somenos Marsh near Canadian Tire in
Duncan.
A SPOTTED SANDPIPER was sighted at Sabastion Point in Lantzville.

the end of Shelly Road ( Ocean side of highway 19a) at about 9:10 am.
