i suppose you could say my friends and i bored easily of the ground-hugging
ice fog, so on sunday morning we got up far too early and headed north to
meet the day across the skagit valley...

while we dipped on the whooper swan, we still managed to find several merlin
and red-tailed hawks (they're everywhere!), numerous rough-legged hawks
(including two dark-morphs) at the samish river crossing, northern harriers
(one of the best photos i've taken recently is in this collection) at west
90, varied thrushes, spotted towhees, and fox sparrows in rexville, and snow
geese up-close-and-personal at hayton reserve...

it was quite the day, and as it turned out, beautiful and windfree...

photos of our feathered friends (and at least one fixer-upper boat) are
available in the Photos of the Month gallery... Enjoy!
