13 of us from Tacoma braved the frozen tundra of C. Wash over the weekend,
the lowest
temperature recorded -3 at Havillah. Overall, was not too unbearable except
when in
breezy locales. Our route to grand coulee, over sr155 to havillah, cameron
lk. to the
waterville plateau. Highlights included 3 predator prey, 1
predator-predator interac-
tions and app. 1,000 Boh. Wax. in Brewster.
While enjoying 5 G. Part. at Havillah, an adult Goshawk unsuccessfully
flashed in
affording great looks at close range, as it perched briefly.
While driving sr 172 west of Mansfield, a large dark falcon took a horned
lark between
2 cars, over the highway. This bird flew in very quickly from behind, and I
only got
a brief look as it flew to a hill out of sight. My thought was gyr, but
could not
confirm it. We were looking for a gyr, to complete a 3 accipter, 5 falcon
weekend.
In a feeder in Tonasket just up from the junction gas station, a sharpie
made 4
passes with an attendant female Tiaga Merlin. This was very entertaining,
as the
Merlin coasted repeated over the birds flushed by the sharpie.
Intermittently, both
would perch in view, allowing great looks.
In Brewster, behind the McDonald's , app. 1,000 B.Wax clustered in 4 trees,
with
app.500 in a doug. fir looking like tightly placed christmas ornaments.

Bohemian Waxwing, 200 Electric City, 150 sr 97 into Brewster, ap.1,000
Brewster.
Cedar Wax., app. 250 Martin rd.
Tree sparrow, 1-2 Martin rd.
Snow Bunting, 250 just past Havillah.
C. Redpoll, 2 Coulee Dam at a feeder, groups of 30, 50, and 50 over
Disautel summit. 1 light Hoary type or intermediate, hope we have
a picture of it.
