Hi Gene,

I would advise against hanging anything on one shoulder for an
extended time -- it's likely to create persistent, painful conditions
eventually. You can get a harness for the binocs that has an X-brace
that goes over both shoulders. I got mine (actually for my camera) at
REI for $30 and what a difference it makes! For the water bottle and
book, look into a waist-belt carrier. REI also has them, but I'm sure
you can find them cheaper elsewhere, especially online.
