Today we birded the foothills of the Blue Mts. just across the state line in
Umitilla County Or.
On Hood Rd. at Birch Creek Rd we spotted a PACIFIC MERLIN on a telephone
pole. On up Birch Cr. we found an immature BALD EAGLE being mobbed by Ravens
as it snacked on a small Coyote. It took off when we rounded the bend but
we were able to photograph it in a tree. Later we found a second MERLIN.
This one was probably an adult male of a lighter variety since it was more
slate blue and showed a little rufus on its legs.
