Hi Tweeters,

A great day for birding. Joined the Kent Ponds
Census, the area is formally known as the Green River
Natural Resources area. The Red-shouldered Hawk was
added to the census after it was seen near the Animal
Shelter on 64th. A good place to look from because it
is elevated is at GraybaR company parking lot across
the street from and sort of kitty-corner to the animal
shelter.

Other good census birds included:

Trumpeter Swans-5
Northern Shrike-2, one adult, on juvenile
Bald Eagle, at least 2
Coopers Hawk, one adult
Northern Harrier, 5
Western Meadowlark, 6

The bird in the refridge prompted me to post because
at Anderson Park on Russell road where a Barn Owl
sometimes roost we saw some passerines that failed to
survive the cold roosting in these trees. Two were
sparrows, probably both Lincoln's but only one ID'ed
for sure Lincoln's that were found dead huddled up to
the base of one of the pines there. A third dead bird
was probably a Junco. They don't look the same when
they have dessicated. This has been a tough winter
for our small birds on the west side.

I went around a bit after the census and found one
Greater Yellowlegs and 2 Wilsons Snipe off of Frager
Rd north of 212th. At Lake Fenwick I saw a flock of
about 20+ Band-tailed Pigeons and a Bald Eagle hauling
in a big evergreen stick with foliage in for a nest.
