Michael, you may have gotten answers off line but for those on line and
interested in seeing the Slaty-backed gull, a large contingent of birders
were scoping Sunday afternoon at the Cedar River mouth when Andy Stepniewski
spotted what turned out to be the Slaty-backed at 3:45 p.m. Great views as
it bathed and preened. It seems to be getting along better on its injured
leg...a hopeful sign. And MaryFrances Mathis pulled up the Palm warbler
still twitching its tail in the parking lot.

Earlier in the day Carol Schulz, Kathy "Rooster" and others zeroed in on the
Red-shouldered hawk just south of the animal shelter on 64th in the Kent
Ponds. It seems the hawk is staying in that area north of the "grassy
knoll," south of the animal shelter and west of the Graybar building (north
of Web Press) on 64th. They were generous to share their experience and
scopes.
