Today at 1:30 pm we found a dark Gyrfalcon that had been seen by others west of Hwy. 395 via Monroe Rd. near the corner of Spotted Rd. and Ridgeway. We found it just west of this corner at the first farm trees on Falspar Rd. had a few light feathers on the nape, a light orbital ring, slight eyebrow line, white patches on the dark back and in flight showed fine barring on longish tail. It also has been seen in the wetlands near the the corner where over 100 Ring-necked Pheasants are wintering. There are several Rough-legged and Red-tailed Hawks in the area for comparisons.
North on Spotted Rd. just before reaching Staley Rd., we came on a Golden Eagle sitting on a power pole. This these birds have been in the area since sometime in December.
