I wish I had looked more closely at the waterfowl I saw in Europe and Korea (I don't recall seeing wild waterfowl in Vietnam). But when you see a loon inland in Germany, the field guide said it most likely was an Arctic Loon. The Great Northern Diver (Common Loon) is mostly a saltwater bird in winter. As for Korea (no binoculars), I only saw the one from the road near Pohang. I didn't pay attention to all the waterfowl out off the beach (probaly since having been developed and paved over).
