Brien Meilleur and I got some good looks at the immature Red-shouldered Hawk at the Kent ponds yesterday about noon, after searching for two hours in the cold north wind. It finally decided to feed, flew south from the vicinity of the animal shelter and landed mid-way up in several cottonwoods visible from the grassy knoll. Marv's pictures are perfect. Its more accipiter-like flight and hunting style is also evident.

We also saw a single Western Scrub-Jay across the street from the Green River WRA, east along the powerlines, a known spot, and were able to see all three Rusty Blackbirds at the dairy farm just north of Carnation. Hwy 203 here is nasty but it is possible to stake out the primary foraging area and roof resting point from just across the highway at a tiny pullout. Pacience may be rewarded.
