Dear Tweeters,

My old Goretex parka is just about kaputt. If birders
can suggest a good birding parka or other outerwear,
please feel free to contact me off list.

Criteria? Impermeability and windproofness are the
most important. Then there is length (to cover the
upper legs), abundance of pockets (and lined
handwarmer ones), and stoutness of zipper. I wish I
could find one with a hood like my ancient REI parka
had (three parkas ago); it was not only lined, but
also allowed lateral head movement without obstructing
vision.

Finally, of course, the color should be dull and drab!

What about those garments that some Brits wear, sort
of raincoats, made of non-rustling natural fibers--any
comparison to a Goretex parka? Are these too heavy?

Yours truly,

Gary Bletsch
