Sunday January 28, 2007:
A RING-NECKED PHEASANT was been visiting a yard in Cinnabar Valley.
The Sunday Bird Walk went to the Buttertubs Marsh. Twenty-two birders found
the following thirty-six species: GREAT BLUE HERON, CANADA GOOSE, MALLARD,
RING-NECKED DUCK, BUFFLEHEAD, HOODED MERGANSER, GREEN-WINGED TEAL,
PIED-BILLED GREBE, COOPER'S HAWK, RED-TAILED HAWK, GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL,
ROCK PIGEON, RING-NECKED PHEASANT, NORTHERN FLICKER, DOWNY WOODPECKER,
STELLER'S JAY, COMMON RAVEN, CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEE, MARSH WREN, BEWICK'S
WREN, AMERICAN ROBIN, VARIED THRUSH, EUROPEAN STARLING, GOLDEN-CROWNED
KINGLET, BROWN CREEPER, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, SPOTTED TOWHEE, SONG SPARROW,
GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW, RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD, HOUSE FINCH, DARK-EYED JUNCO,
BUSHTIT, PINE SISKIN, AMERICAN GOLDFINCH and HOUSE SPARROW.

Friday January 26:
An ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD was seen feeding on the tops of Alder trees in the
Beach Estates Park ravine in the Cilaire area of Nanaimo.

Wednesday January 24:
Two PINE GROSBEAKS were seen feeding on Arbutus berries in McGregor Marsh
across Rutherford Road from the Quilted Duck in north Nanaimo..
ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS have been reported in Lantzville and Protection Island.
The Wednesday Bird Walk went to Columbia Beach on January 24. Among the
highlights of the morning were the large number of HARLEQUIN DUCKS that we
saw. Two RING-BILLED GULLS and a ROCK SANDPIPER were spotted on the
shoreline and a flock of thirty BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS flew past us several
times. Fifteen birders found the following thirty-one species: PACIFIC LOON,
COMMON LOON, HORNED GREBE, DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT, BRANT GEESE, HARLEQUIN
DUCK, BLACK SCOTER, SURF SCOTER, WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, COMMON GOLDENEYE,
BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, BUFFLEHEAD, RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, COMMON MERGANSER,
BALD EAGLE, BLACK TURNSTONE, ROCK SANDPIPER, DUNLIN, BLACK OYSTERCATCHER,
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, MEW GULL, RING-BILLED GULL, GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL, ROCK
PIGEON, STELLER'S JAY, NORTHWESTERN CROW, AMERICAN ROBIN, EUROPEAN STARLING,
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, DARK-EYED JUNCO
and SPOTTED TOWHEE.

Tuesday January 23:
An ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD is visiting feeders in the 200 block of Dawkins Lane
in Nanaimo.

Monday January 22:
A SNOW BUNTING has been coming to a yard along Bridgewater Lane in
Parksville.

Sunday January 21:
One albino DARK-EYED JUNCO, GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS and six RED-BREASTED
NUTHATCHES are visiting feeders in Nanoose Bay.

Highway 19A and Garrett Road (look for the wildlife sign) at about 9:20 a.m.
