Dear Tweeters,

A concrete step one might take in order to foster
ornithology in the Middle East is to join OSME (the
Ornithological Society of the Middle East). Actually,
OSME is keeping its original acronym, but now embraces
Central Asia (Armenia, Kazakhstan, etc) as well.

It is not cheap. I forget what it is in pounds
sterling, but ends up being about $69.00 a year,
including a stipend for one Middle Eastern
ornithologist. The journal "Sandgrouse" comes out
about four times a year. It is a nice little
publication, with color photographs, lots of
interesting scientific articles, and also a column
called "Around the Region" with sightings of all sorts
of intersting birds.

I highly recommend it!

Yours truly,
