Carol and Tweeters,

Here's another issue related to Boeing security concerns.
Are not the Boeing Ponds-- often mentioned on Tweeters-- on
Boeing private property, and open to visitors only as a courtesy?
(I've never been there, but I was under the impression that they
were private.)

Whether or not Boeing has any right to restrict or question the
activities of birders on public property adjacent to their
facilities, they certainly do have the right to restrict or
deny access to their private property. It would be a shame if
disagreements between birders and Boeing security staff
caused us to lose access to a good birding area.

The recent concentrations of birders at the Cedar R. mouth
(I was there last week) and Gene Coulon Park are likely to
continue for awhile (at least as long as the rare gulls are being
seen). Therefore, it might make sense if someone from WOS
and/or Seattle Audubon could approach senior staff at Boeing to
see if some reasonable resolution to the security concerns
could be arrived at. Even if their concerns are groundless,
we need to convince them of that.

Hi Tweets:
I'm retired from Boeing. They have legitimate security concerns. We CROSS
BOEING PROPERTY and their runway in order to get to the viewing platform at
the Kayak Ctr at the mouth of the Cedar River. Boeing is also allowing the
City of Renton to build a boardwalk from Coulon Park to the mouth of the
Cedar River right in front of their big Boeing buildings (at least this is
proposed for the future). Their security people are usually pretty nice,
and things change there all the time due to recent security alerts. This is
not just about industrial secrets.
Lets be nice, say ok, and calmly walk away, so that we can continue to
access the Kayak Center pier?

Yours, Carol Schulz, Des Moines, linusq at att.net
