Washington Birders,

I am reading with amusement the excitement over
the Northern Mockingbird up there. Of course, it's a common bird down here in South Carolina. They often vocalize as the days get longer and warmer. You might try
whistling your best bird song imitations to get a reaction.
No recorded songs, please. It's wonderful to hear one in the Spring go though his catalogue of imitations. If you get a chance with your bird, see how many you can recognize.
Our Mockers near salt water do great Willet imitations.
Around here, you have to be careful to call an Eastern Bluebird-it's often a Mocker.

I was able to easily find the Mockingbird at the earlier reported location just east of Coupeville on Snakelum Pt Rd, at the intersection of Rhodena Dr. I observed the bird from about 420 to 430pm today, Tue. 1/30. It was sitting on the wires a couple feet from the Holly Tree, looking very fluffed up and cold. It did not vocalize or move during the entire time I viewed it, even though I walked up to directly under it and was no more than 8 feet away from it. It did tilt its head sideways to check me out. Wish I had the camera with me.
