Greetings Tweeters,
Today at 1130 while working near Staircase along Lake Cushman I encountered
a Rock Wren. The bird called attention to itself by singing, but showed
itself well as it worked its way in an around a boulder field. The location
is along Lake Cushman along the road to Staircase (Olympic National Park),
it was 2.9 miles beyond the gate (open) when the main road turns from
asphalt pavement to aggregate surfaced. The site is well know among the
local teens as party rock, it is the largest rock along the lake side of the
road, it has a large crack in the middle and a green 3 (a bit hard to see)
painted on the east facing side. The bird was in the talus/ boulder slope
immediately above the road. I was in the area surveying the post fire
conditions above the road; this is within the area of last years wildfire
though it was not intense at this location.

If anyone has a notion to visit this site, my advice is don't go on the 4th
at least not after mid morning, especially if it is nice. This is a party/
warm weather hang out spot and can be one of the most crowded areas around
(probably THE most crowded). If you go, go early. On the 4th disturbance
will be very high and parking probably at a premium.
Cheers...
