Subject: [Tweeters] RBA: SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER in Clallam County
Date: Jul 2 21:04:07 2007
From: Russell Rogers - rrogers at olypen.com

This evening at approximately 6:00 PM I saw a SCISSOR-TAILED
FLYCATCHER sitting on a fence post on rout 101 at mile marker 274. It
is in a field on the north side of 101 and west of Knapp Road. This
is just to the west of the Clallam County and Jefferson County Line.
I called Bob Boekelheide and Bob Norton who were able to get there
and see with their wives it as well. It was working the fence line
actively sallying out for insects. A number of birds harassed it. Bob
Boekelheide thought it might be because its pale color made it look
like a shrike, which I thought was a plausible idea. It seemed to
have quite a long tail so perhaps it is a male. It was still there at
7:45 PM when I had to leave. A very beautiful bird. I hope others can
relocate it.
