This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
Saturday, June 30th, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores

Rare Bird Alert for INDIGO BUNTING and ALDER FLYCATCHER.


Sightings for Saturday, June 30th:

At Colony Farm in Coquitlam, the INDIGO BUNTING was present for the second
day. Turn onto Colony Farm Road off Lougheed Hwy. Shortly after crossing the
railway tracks, park on the left and then follow the marked trail for about
150 metres. The bird can be found singing from the bushes in the general
area. Also in this area were 2 LAZULI BUNTINGS.

At Surrey Lake Park in Surrey, an ALDER FLYCATCHER was heard singing. From
the parking lot off 152nd St, follow the trail around the lake passing the
dam which is bordered by a chain link fence. Just after the dam there is a
bench that overlooks the marsh area of the lake. The bird was calling from
across the lake. Nearby were 2 GREEN HERONS.


Sightings for Friday, June 29th:

At Colony Farm Park in Coquitlam, an INDIGO BUNTING was found at 7:45 pm.

At Lighthouse Marine Park in Point Roberts, WA, 130 RHINOCEROS AUKLETS were
present.

At the Roberts Bank coal port in Delta, 130 CASPIAN TERNS were seen.

At the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta were 4 RED CROSSBILLS, 4 SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPERS, and a MARBLED GODWIT.


Sightings for Thursday, June 28th:

At Iona Island in Richmond, 2 WILSON'S PHALAROPES were present on the
northeast sewage pond.

In the Ladner area of Delta, a pair of EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were seen at
a feeder along 42A Street, present for the last two days.

At the Reifel Bird Sanctuary, a WILLET and a COMMON NIGHTHAWK was seen.


Sightings for Wednesday, June 27th:

At Lighthouse Marine Park in Point Roberts, WA, 10 RHINOCEROS AUKLETS were
seen.

At the Maplewood Conservation Area in North Vancouver, an EASTERN KINGBIRD
was present.


Sightings for Tuesday, June 26th:

At Colony Farm Park, 16 male and 1 female LAZULI BUNTING were seen. Also
here were 24 RED CROSSBILLS, 7 EASTERN KINGBIRDS, and 50 BAND-TAILED
PIGEONS.

At the Reifel Bird Sanctuary, a MARBLED GODWIT and WILLET were sighted in
the west field. Also around in the sanctuary were 2 BRANT and a PURPLE
MARTIN.

In South Surrey, a COMMON NIGHTHAWK was seen at 160th St and 15th Ave.


Sightings for Monday, June 25th:

At Reifel, 2 BRANT, 15 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 1 SNOW GOOSE, 1 RUDDY DUCK, 1
AMERICAN BITTERN, 2 PURPLE MARTINS, and 5 BLACK SWIFTS were seen.

At the Maplewood Conservation Area, an EASTERN KINGBIRD was present near the
eastern salt marsh.


No sightings for Sunday, June 24th


Sightings for Saturday, June 23rd:

At Colony Farm, from the Lougheed Hwy side, a WESTERN KINGBIRD was seen from
the gravel road.

At Pitt Meadows, along the Grant Narrows Nature Trail were 2 TURKEY
VULTURES, 5 RED CROSSBILLS, 4 GRAY CATBIRDS, and 7 BULLOCK'S ORIOLES. Nearby
were 3 SANDHILL CRANES.

In North Delta, 13 RED CROSSBILLS were seen around the 6700 block of Baker
Road.


Sightings for Friday, June 22nd:

At Crescent Beach in South Surrey, a WESTERN GULL was seen.


No reports for Thursday, June 21st.


Sightings for Wednesday, June 20th:

At Minnekhada Regional Park, 2 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS and 4 VAUX'S SWIFTS were
sighted.


Sightings for Tuesday, June 19th:

In Langley, a CHIPPING SPARROW was seen at 208th St and St. Louis Crescent.

In Surrey at 96th Ave and 168th St, 150 BLACK SWIFTS were sighted.


Sightings for Monday, June 18th:

In North Vancouver, at Park Street Marsh near Maplewood Conservation Area, a
WILSON'S PHALAROPE was present in the afternoon.

At the Reifel Bird Sanctuary, a BLACK TERN was seen briefly over the
southwest marsh. Also there were 13 BLACK SWIFTS, 1 DUNLIN, and 3 pairs of
AMERICAN BITTERNS.
