Subject: [Tweeters] Red-tail timing

The young Red-tails are well out on the wing right now and are learning to hunt at this stage. If you have young in your area, you'll be hearing alot of food begging ("eeeping") at this stage. It is loud, often continuous and by no means inconspicuous. The young birds here at my place spend alot of time soaring. Look for the light outer wing panels to differentiate them from the adults (who are also molting or showing gaps in the wing feathers).
Certainly a few pairs may be later and some may have put down a second clutch after failing earlier in the year but most have young just reaching independence right now.
