I just got around to going through 66 Tweeters messages, and see that this one might be worth replying to.

I saw, in one of my bird books, where an observer near Lake Okeechobee, Florida, saw one of a small flock of Carolina Parakeets drop dead before his eyes! It was a relatively recent sighting, in the early twentieth century I think. That sounds like disease to me, but I'd have to relocate the literature to be sure.
