Subject: [Tweeters] Common Nighthawks,

I just spent about a hour out walking around the Chehalis Wildlife area just outside of Elma. After a few minutes at the first pond (heading south on the grass/gravel road), I began to hear Common Nighthawks. I spotted four of them flying overhead. There were several swallows up high with them. This was the first time I have had nighthawks at the wetlands there.

Also, of note is the lone adult Trumpeter Swan that continues to over-summer at the wetland. This is the second summer for this bird (assuming it is the same one). I believe it cannot fly, but otherwise seems very healthy.

Wood ducks were all over the place with a few males coming out of breeding plumage. I talled at least 13 of them. One Turkey Vulture flew over the wetland while I was there.

The Osprey nest has two young in it. On a side note, the Osprey nest at Vance Creek county park appears to only have one young, but the angle of view is bad so another could be hiding up there.

Good birding,
