I saw 19-27 Whimbrel along the beach north of Twin Harbors State Park (some
may have circled back, making the exact count difficult, but I did count 19
at one time), along with Western and Least sandpipers and about 8 Semipalmated
plovers. In one flock of peeps that was flying away I also saw one larger
sandpiper that might have been a breeding-plumaged Sanderling. Mixed in the
large flock of (mostly) Heermann's, Glaucous-winged and Western gulls was a
single California gull. On the beach were four Brant. High tide Saturday at
Bottle Beach had a single large plover sleeping out on a post, nothing else on
the beach, but a few Western and Least sandpipers along the water by the
bridge just before the beach.
