Dawn, Hi! I live just down the road from you and we have the occasional
Pileated come through, usually announcing itself very loudly before we see him.
And, yes, the bird seems to favor tree stumps, moving from one to another
between trips to an adjacent tree.
[I wonder if that's where political "stumping" comes from?] --
