A dozen or so birders were at Boundary Bay this a.m., apparently following George Gerdts' excellent instructions from yesterday. (And yes, I was in the group of birders he mentioned who missed it by 30 min or so on Sun!) Well, that little plover was there this morning, but I was the only one who saw it, I think. A local birder (Les) had told David and me that he has seen it 3 times, always at the edge of the receding tide. At about 7:15, I was watching the edge of the shore (BB Plovers) when I saw a pink blur in the bottom of my scope view. Focusing in, it was clearly the LS Plover--pinker than I imagined it would be. Dark legs were evident in what, for those few moments, was pretty good light. As Dennis Paulsen would say, "Unmistakable!" It was by itself, running left. Sadly, I immediately left the scope to my husband and ran to notify other birders, when what I should have done was stay with the bird and yelled or waved a hanky! In the next 45 min. the plover could not be relocated. But I am making this report to let folks know that it is still "in town." The location was about 100 yds left from the 104th entry road. Traffic crossing into Canada was nil, and it took about 15 min. to cross back to the US. Communter traffic was starting to pick up at 6:30 a.m.driving on 99 towards Vancouver, though. And as Mom would say, wear long pants! Those who didn't were freezing as the wind picked up and the rain pelted us w/o mercy from 7:30 on. Good luck, and please keep posting either way.
