Hello Tweeties,

I wrote a short piece about a paper that appeared
recently that discusses that birds break the rules of
aerodynamic scaling, that phylogeny is more indicative
of bird flight speeds than any other factor. This
story also includes a free PDF of the original
scientific paper that you might be interested to read;

Chris Sharpe emailed me a statement about the
Recurve-billed Bushbird rediscovery, which I quote in
full. I also present Chris's original 2004 images,
although some of the images (along with wallpaper
sizes that you can download). Many of these images
will re-appear soon on my site (one will be the
featured image for the next issue of Birds in the
News, for example).
