I went to see the dipper nest at Entiat Falls described by Larry Schwitters
today, and got a real treat - two fledgling dippers clambering precariously
about on the rock face by the nest, with much flapping of wings, and at
least one more still in the nest, not yet brave enough to take the plunge.
They all screamed demandingly at parent birds, but the one(s) in the nest
seemed to get fed most. Lovely to sit and watch during lunch in the sun.

Both Entiat Falls and Silver Falls were worth the trip in themselves - I
didn't see many eastern specials on the hike up to Silver Falls, but 11.30
was a bit late for birdy activity. The most prominent birds around were
chipping sparrows making it obvious why they were named, and golden-crowned
kinglets twitting from high in the tall firs, with one or two
representatives of several other non-rare species.

I had a great day in the sun (I took the little convertible, not the Harley
;-) ) Thanks for the tip, and the useful info on the roads, Larry!
