On our way from Montlake to Marymoor on our bicycles Tuesday, we stopped by
the stormwater/mitigation/wildlife pond at mile 2.6 along the Sammamish
River Trail (one mile north of Redmond City Hall). In addition to a large
gaggle of Canada Geese, there were what appeared to be four juvenile
Short-billed Dowitchers, feeding at the edges of the pond. This is the first
time we have seen Dowitchers there. Just south of the pond, a lone Osprey
was standing on its nest atop a power-line tower.
