Hi Chris

You probably want to get the ABA A Birder's Guide to Alaska by George C.West (the Alaska equivalent to A Birder's Guide to Washington). Laid out the same way with routes and locations, seasonality graphs, lots of good information.

For pure identification Sibley is probably the best, but you might want to consider the National Geographic Guide 5th edition as it covers all of the rare and unusual birds that Sibley does not.

Another book you might consider is Guide to the Birds of Alaska by Robert H. Armstrong - it only includes the birds you are likely to see in Alaska.

You might also consider some of the guides covering B.C.

I will traveling up the Alcan highway this summer from Seattle to Anchorage and Homer and am hoping to lots of birding.

What are the best local bird guide books for this area? Is it still Sibley?
